Founded in 1879, Fulham are London’s oldest professional club. Fulham were founded by worshippers of the Fulham St Andrews Church Sunday School. The church still stands today with a plaque commemorating Fulham’s foundation. The club shortened their name to Fulham in 1888.
Fulham joined the football league in 1907/08 in the 2nd Division. In their 1st season they finished 4th, missing out on promotion by just 3 points.Fulham remained in the division for 21 years before being relegated to the 3rd Division. In 1949, Fulham reached the top tier of English football for the 1st time, before being relegated 3 years later.
Fulham are known as the Cottagers due to Craven Cottage being their home ground since 1896. In 2002, Fulham spent 2 years ground sharing with QPR at Loftus Road due to Craven Cottage being renovated. Craven Cottage was also the 1st English ground to sell hot dogs in 1926. Fulham are known as The Whites, due to their home kit being white since 1903.
