Leaks of the new 23/24 Man Utd third shirt show it to have just the devil as the crest. Football kits with simplified designs appear to be a trend that is becoming more popular within football. Today we look at some of the best shirts to feature these crests on these shirts.
Corinthians (2023 Third Shirt) - One club we know to make a statement with a kit is the Brazilian club Corinthians. They recently released their fourth shirt for the 2023 season using a more simple, yet striking design of their crest, which they originally used between 1910-14.
Roma (95/96 Home Shirt) - We have spoken about Roma’s 'Lupetto' crest before on our threads, and to be honest, we will do it again and again. If rumours are to be believed, it will feature on their home shirt again next season with the club’s move to Adidas.
Auxerre (19/20 Third Shirt) - During the 19/20 season Auxerre & Macron released this stunning third shirt harking back to the club's origins. The shirt incorporated a huge Maltese cross, which is the main feature of the usual Auxerre crest that we see on the French side shirts.
Liverpool (Since 2012) - For the past 11 seasons we have seen Liverpool move away from their famous crest featuring the Anfield gates for a more stripped-down version of the badge which only features the Liverbird and ‘LFC”. Will we ever see them return to the more traditional crest in the future?
Venezia (21/22 Home Shirt) - Another club known for making a statement is Venezia. Before changing their crest completely for the start of last season, their 21/22 home & fourth shirt featured a simplified version of the crest with just the winged lion emblazoned on them.
Boca Juniors (1978-Present) - The South American giants have used a simplified crest since 1978. It has the initials CABJ with each letter inside a yellow sun. First seen in ‘78 on the club’s home shirt, it was most recently used on their away shirt for the 2022 season.
Los Angeles FC (2023 Away Shirt) - The 2022 MLS Champions released their away shirt for the 2023 season which took away the border and text of their crest to leave the huge ‘L’ and winged ‘A’. We’re big fans of adding the star above as well.
Celtic (2021-Present) - Having used a three-leaf clover on their shirts between 1925-65, Adidas started having just the famous four-leaf clover from the Celtic crest sporting the club’s 20/21 third shirt and the away shirt from the 21/22 season.
SBV Vitesse - With the Vitesse crest featuring a double-headed eagle, which is taken from the coat of arms of Arnhem, the club released their away shirt for the 21/22 season that only featured the ‘Hertog’ and the skyline of the city.
Arsenal - Having one of the most recognisable creates in the world, the Gunners featured a lone cannon on their shirts between 1969-90. Arsenal & Adidas have gone back to the sleek design on Arsenal away shirts since 2021 and look set to continue the trend.
