As football fans, we’re sure you’ll agree that nothing gets you off your seat like a thunderous volley, overhead kick or 40-yard screamer. Here is part one of some of the best “wonder goals”. Enjoy
Pavard (France 2018) - The 2018 World Cup in Russia produced great moments, none more so than the goal of the tournament from France’s Benjamin Pavard. The right-back produced the sweetest of half volleys to level the game in this round of 16 clash.
Neymar (Santos 2011) - Before tearing it up with Barca & PSG, Neymar won the third Puskas Award in 2011 with a goal against Flamengo for Santos. The Brazilian started from near the halfway line taking on several of the opposition team before scoring.
Khazri (St. Ettienne 2021) - Tunisian international Wahbi Khazri scored an absolute screamer from well inside his own half to equalise for St. Etienne during a match against Metz during the 21/22. Opta stats said it was 68 yard (223 feet) from goal. Take a bow, son!
Gerrard (Liverpool 2006) - The 2006 FA Cup Final against West Ham saw the Liverpool captain score arguably the greatest goal of his career. With a fierce drive from 35 yards, Gerrard tied the game at 3-3 sending it to extra time.
Jimenez (Mexico Women 2006) - Chosen not only as the best goal from the 2012 U20 Womens World CUp but also shortlisted for Puskas Award, a stunning shot 5 metres inside the Switzerland half saw Mexican player Olivia Jiménez seal a 2-0 win for her side.
James Rodriguez (Colombia 2014) - Voted goal of the tournament but this time winning the ‘Puskas Award’ was the wonder strike from Colombia’s James against Uruguay during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The goal propelled the midfielder as a rising star.
Georgia Stanway (Man City 21/22) - During the 21/22 season Manchester City midfielder Georgia Stanway equalised for her side against Birmingham City with a fierce strike from well outside the area to level the game at 1-1.
Shevchenko (AC Milan) - In 2001 vs Juventus, the striker scored a goal of breathtaking quality. Picking up the ball & evading Davids, Iuliano & Pessotto, Shevchenko was pushed wide & struck a beauty of a shot that looped over the hapless Buffon in goal.
Tshabalala (South Africa 2010) - As hosts of the 2010 World Cup, South Africa would have been determined to get the tournament off to a great start. Step up Siphiwe Tshabalala whose thunderous strike in the 54th minute against Mexico certainly did that.
Zidane (Real Madrid 2002) - "Genius" is often used in football but it sums up Zinedine Zadine perfectly. His outrageous volley against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 Champions League final is heralded as one of the best goals the competition has ever seen.
