23/24 Saudi Pro League

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you may have seen the Saudi Pro League have been making some waves in the football world. Signing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Jordan Henderson(?), it seems like they trying to become the next big league. Today we look at each club.

Abha FC - Founded in 1966 as Al-Farouk and then Al-Wadiea in 1972, Abha FC have been known as such since 1999. They play in the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium in Abha. Their star player is former PSG & West Brom midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak. Their kits are supplied by the Saudi sports brand ‘Offside’. 


Al Fayha FC - Al-Fayha boasts the smallest stadium in the league with a modest 7,000 capacity. Nicknamed ‘Al Burtuqali’ (The Orange) they were promoted to the Saudi Pro League after winning the first division in 2017. Similar to Abha, they too have their kits supplied by Offside. 


Al Hilal SFC - Holding the record for most Saudi Pro League titles (18), Al Hilal are one of only three teams to compete in every season since it began in 1976. Manufactured by Puma, they recently signed the brand's poster boy Neymar along with Ruben Neves & Kalidou Koulibaly.


Al Fateh - Managed by former West Ham and Croatia manager Slaven Bilic, Al Fateh has managed just the won SPL title during the 2012/13 season. Another team manufactured by Skillano, their kits are worn by former Barcelona winger Cristian Tello & Celtic defender Jason Denayer.


Al Shabab - The first club formed in Riyadh, they have won six SPL titles in their history. Known as The White Lion (Al Leith), they boast former Valencia man Éver Banega & Colombian international Gustavo Cuéllar as their star players. They too are manufactured by Offside.


Al-Ahli SFC - Located in the port city of Jeddah, Al-Ahli was formed in 1937 & plays in the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. They last won the league in 2016 & recently acquired Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie & Roger Ibanez. Their kits are supplied by Adidas.


Al-Hazem FC - Promoted to the Saudi Pro League after finishing second in the 22/23 First Division season, Al-Hazem will be hoping to keep pace with the big boys after 12 years away from the SPL. The club have their kits manufactured by R.A. Sport. 


Al-Ittihad FC - The oldest Saudi Arabian sports club and one of the most star-studded squads in the Saudi Pro League is Al-Ittihad. They have brought Karim Benzema, Fabinho, N’Golo Kante and Jota in. They are currently top of the league after two games in their lovely Nike kit.


Al-Khaleej FC - Based out of the Eastern Province of Saihat, Al-Khaleej FC play in the 10,000-seater Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Stadium. Their kits are supplied by Laser and they also have former Benfica Defender Lisandro Lopez playing for the club. 


Al-Nassr FC - Al-Nassr have been thrust into the public eye after signing Cristiano Ronaldo in 2022. They have gone on to sign Sadio Mané, Seko Fofana, Alex Telles, Otávio, Aymeric Laporte & Marcelo Brozović. CR7 got them a Nike kit deal & won them the Arab Club Champions Cup.


Al-Ohkdood - Al-Ohkdood was promoted to the Saudi Pro League for the first time in their history last season and take to the field for their debut campaign in their Skillano-manufactured kits.


Al-Raed - Al-Raed is based in Buraidaha and is the first of its kind in the Qassim region of Saudia Arabia. They are currently managed by former Shakhtar Donetsk coach Igor Jovićević, play in the 25,000 King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and play in kits manufactured by Challenge. 


Al-Riyadh FC - Formed in 1953, Al-Riyadh has been known previously as Ahli AL-Riyadh & Al-Yamama. In their 70-year history, they have never won the Saudi Pro League. They have their kits manufactured by the wonderful Italian brand Zeus.


Al-Taawoun - Also playing out of the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium sharing with Qasam City rivals Al-Raed. Al-Taawoun have never won the Saudi Pro League but one of their first team coaches is former Wigan midfielder Denny Landzaat. They wear Macron-supplied kits. 


Al-Tai FC - Another club whose kits are manufactured by Offside, Al-Tai plays in the Prince Abdul Aziz bin Musa’ed Stadium. They share the ground with rivals Al-Jabalain and contest the Ha’il Derby. They are nicknamed Faris Al Shamal (The Knight of the North).


Al-Wehda - Al-Wehda were formed in 1946 and are the oldest cub in Mekka and are twice winners of The Kings Cup. Their nickname is Fursan Mecca (Knights of Mecca) and their kits are also supplied by Offside. Their star player is ex-Watford and Man Utd loanee Odion Ighalo.


Damac FC - Based in Khamis Mushait and named after the nearby Jabal Damac Mountain, Damac FC was formed in 1972 and plays in the 20,000 seater Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium. They have kits supplied by Skillano. They also have former Spurs player Nkoudou in their ranks.


Ettifaq FC - Twice winning SPL winners Ettifaq have former Liverpool captains Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson as their manager and captain respectively. They also have former Celtic striker Mousa Dembele wearing their Tempo-supplied kits during the 23/24 season.
